Abbey Lane Student Housing
This development combines Student Housing and Residential components as part of a joint venture between our clients Unite Students and Artisan Real Estate UK.
AMA designed the student housing element and modelled the overall scheme so Edinburgh’s Planning Department could see the development in its entirety. Accurate visualisations were produced to ensure that the city’s key views were protected and local amenity would be unaffected, and our 3d model helped to illustrate our urban design concepts.
Abbey Lane will provide accommodation for 298 students and features a communal garden, storage for 200 bikes and green roofs both minimising water run off and augmenting the views from nearby Arthur’s Seat.
This is one of the first sites in Edinburgh to provide a mixture of housing and purpose built student accommodation, a move promoted by the City of Edinburgh Council’s policy for sites with greater than 0.25ha developable area. These must now comprise a proportion of housing as part of the development, helping to balance the mix of land uses and contribute to the need for homes within the city centre.
Work is due to start on site early in 2021 with completion in Summer 2022.
