This proposal is located in a very restricted site, just off Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. The proximity of adjacent buildings and a steeply sloping site demanded the careful consideration of various issues relating to access, scale, privacy, fire separation and views.

A number of study models were undertaken before proposing two separate buildings (each with their own distinctive character) linked by a central circulation space. The latter maintains a view through from the High Street to the Cowgate and respects the fine grain of the city’s historic fabric.
