Peterhead Maritime Heritage Museum
- 1996 - First Place International Competition
- Best Building of 1996 Scottish Architectural Awards
The aim of the design was to create a contemporary architectural statement which would be an arresting symbol for Peterhead’s cultural history. The building was inspired by the indigenous architectural and cultural typologies of the North East of Scotland’s fishing community. Its curved back, nestling into the hillside, deliberately recalls the shape of the local "scaffies", a kind of fishing boat, and at the same time echoes the shape of the bay itself.
