Independently of the Princes Street Galleries commission, AMA created a separate proposal for a major new entrance from Waverley Station which ties it into a new experience of the gardens, and and links it through to the Princes Street Galleries proposals.

It is the urban landscape itself that is the key to this project and our main objective for the design is to bring together and to celebrate the landscape and the urban ensemble of New Town, Old Town, monuments and gardens, within a public realm that is truly world class. Our task is to create the new within the very heart of the old. This involves both recognising history but also creating contemporary and vibrant work to re-energise the context. The Waverley Station and Galleries Project has the potential to become a “symbol and model of progress” for the city.
