Orwell Terrace Student Residences, Edinburgh

This development for around 250 student rooms for Edinburgh Napier University at Orwell Terrace in Edinburgh has recently been completed. AMA Studio developed proposals and gained Planning Permission for our client, Cityheart Ltd. and the scheme was developed and implemented by Cooper Cromar Architects.

The client’s requirements and brief for around 37 flats, in a range of formats from 5 to 9 bedrooms, with ancillary accommodation, has been met with a group of buildings across the site designed to create a sense of place and community.

We proposed a new pedestrian street to create a through route between Orwell Terrace and Dalry Park and which also allows light into the public areas.

Overlooking the park we have bookended the new street with a strongly defined rectangular block and a rotunda tower to create a focal point on the site, with the curved form allowing for overlooking of neighbours to be avoided.
