Freer Street Development, Lochrin Basin

Freer Street Development, Lochrin Basin

2002

This is an important urban regeneration site in Fountainbridge unlocking the potential in a large tract of inner city industrial land. Our proposals include creating a new pedestrian street, linking Bruntsfield and Merchiston to Haymarket Station and the West End of Edinburgh, and creating a new access to one of the more attractive aspects of Edinburgh’s industrial heritage – the Union Canal.

Our proposals for 267 new homes consist of a diverse mix of housing types, including townhouses, studio flats, 2-3 bed flats,  and penthouse apartments, along with commercial units of varying sizes. A tree-lined boulevard, named Freer Street, is the spine of the scheme, running from the Canal edge to a flight of steps leading down to Fountainbridge. Two distinctive and contemporary blocks overlook the canal with deep balconies to enjoy the southerly aspect and spectacular views across the city.
