Estonian Academy of Arts, Tallinn
International Competition Submission • 2009
The EAA provides an important Educational and Cultural facility that plays a fundamental and significant part in the cultural and social life of Tallinn.
Our aim for the Academy's new home was to create a building that foments social activity, providing a focus for generating cultural movements and interchanges; not only between students of the Academy, but also between the residents of Tallinn and its visitors.
Our solution to a complex functional programme maximises the location by enhancing, but not overwhelming, the existing environment. A clear, simple philosophy with public space at its heart, establishes a framework for the building which then weaves into the wider urban context.
