Kristiansand Concert Hall, Norway

Kristiansand Concert Hall, Norway

2005

Our proposals seek to make a new urban focus and cultural quarter for the city of Kristiansand. The building grows out of the landscape and is embedded in it. The solid form is cut and opened, responding to the various scales to allow views into the building and out to the key vantage points of the city and the sea.

The public foyer spaces are located along the waterfront to enjoy the wide and open views out to sea. The performers' areas are located towards the hillside, with quieter views of the woods and the forests.

The new building would form part of a larger development located around the international terminal which would include restaurants, shops, offices and artists housing - envisaged as a series of jewels embedded in the rocks. The building would become both a new performance space and a new cultural beacon for the city.
